   HOMESTEAD, Fla.

The rush to complete the mammoth repaving project at Daytona International Speedway is into Week 20, and Goodyear engineers are following it all, anxiously awaiting the time they can finally get some cars on the new asphalt to test tires for the 2011-season opening Daytona 500.

David Ragan, part of a ticket promotion campaign, drove a few laps on the new asphalt Tuesday.
   The update:
-- The backstretch is completed, with new asphalt now in place on the skid pad, apron and the existing chicane.
-- Milling and paving is underway on the apron in turns three and four.
-- Paving is on-going at the pit exit area.
-- The catch-fencing in turns one and two is being reinstalled.
-- The venerable turn four tunnel is being renovated, with new concrete.
-- Musco lighting is being reinstalled in turns three and four.
-- The under-drain trench and fabric installation has been completed all the way around the 2.5-mile track.
