Carl Edwards: Atlanta Addendum

   ATLANTA
Carl Edwards, in an interesting twist on talking with fans and communicating with the media, is using his Facebook page to update his thoughts on Sunday's late-race crash with Brad Keselowski, the latest in a series of incidents between the two.
Edwards, who may face more NASCAR penalties this week, says he was trying to make a point with Keselowski Sunday, after an early-race run-in between the two, which forced Edwards to the garage for 156 laps of repairs.
When Edwards finally returned to the track, Keselowski, who is in his first full season on the NASCAR Sprint Cup tour, driving for Roger Penske, was running a strong sixth when the two collided with three laps to go.
Keselowski's car went flying – much as Edwards' car did in an incident at Talladega last spring with Keselowski while the two were battling for the win – and it landed hard on its roof and bounced around. Keselowski at first appeared shaken but later insisted he was fine. While Edwards awaits NASCAR's next move, Keselowski was testing Monday in Texas.

  Edwards' latest analysis:
"My options: Considering that Brad wrecks me with no regard for anyone's safety or hard work, should I:
"A - Keep letting him wreck me?
"B - Confront him after the race?
"C - Wait till Bristol (March 21) and collect other cars?
"or D - Take care of it now?
"I want to be clear that I was surprised at his flight, and very relieved when he walked away.
"Every person has to decide what code they want to live by and hopefully this explains mine."

Two things are wrong here,

Two things are wrong here, Cousin Carl:

a) YOU caused both wrecks by cutting off Crashalotski. He had nowhere to go in either instance, and even tried to back out to let you in yesterday. Quit cutting people off and you won't get hit.

b) Retaliating, even if it had been justified, at that place on the race track at Atlanta was asking for a nasty wreck. After seeing the replay over and over, the wreck could have been much worse had Crash's car got turned nose first into the section where the dogleg bends back towards Turn 1 (see Mike Skinner's truck wreck at Charlotte from last year). Edwards wants us to think he's a good little gentleman and that he did not start this, but BS like this and his treatment of Kenseth in the past just keep me thinking of him as a brat.

I wonder what would have been

I wonder what would have been the end result if:
1) No SAFER barrier there
2) The integrity of the COT roll cage, which impacted solidly over the driver's head, crushing downwards but maintained stability.

I agree with fireballroberts on the Mike Skinner wreck. Pretty nasty. But Blaise Alexander had similar head-on-into-the-wall wreck at Charlotte, before the SAFER barriers, mandatory HANS device and unfortunately he died.

Like I said in other comments. If Carl Long can get a 12 race suspension for engine tech inspection in a non-points race that he never even raced in, what should Carl Edwards get for intentionally wrecking somebody?

Better be more than a one race suspension.

After having had some time to

After having had some time to ponder the Keselowski/Edwards incident I've come to a conclusion that doesn't seem to be getting much attention from the media.....

But first....
1 - Edwards dumping Keselowski at a high speed track such as Atlanta is not a good thing. The season is long, it could have been done at one of many other tracks. But....perhaps Edwards also calculated that he couldn't make a horrible points day much worse by exacting revenge while being over 150 laps down.
2 - Keselowski has proven he's no angel, so it's not 100% on Edwards in this situation.
3 - Everyone seems to be focusing on Edwards "action" while giving less focus to Keselowski's car's "reaction".

Would this be garnering as much ink and talk had Keselowski not flipped? I say 'NO'. A spin through the grass, or even backing into the wall would have resulted in more discussion on "payback" and less discussion on "penalty".

So......with all of this being said......perhaps some of the culpability lies with the NASCAR R&D Center. High speeds + backwards Sprint Cup Car with large rear wing = airborne car. It's beyond time that a good solution is produced for airborne Sprint Cup cars.

Think about it again.......would we be talking about this that much if Keselowski's car had not gotten airborne?

I'm just sayin'....

I have one words for NASCAR

I have one words for NASCAR if they don't suspend Carl for at least 1 race.

GUTLESS!

And I WAS a Carl Edwards fan. Carl came across Brad's nose at Talledega and he did it again in Atlanta. You want respect Carl, you have to earn respect. You didn't have room in either case to come down or move over.

Carl Edwards is the

Carl Edwards is the stereotypical “boy scout.” He’s clean cut, well-spoken, and never publicly criticizes his team. A handsome man to boot, Edwards is the driver every sponsor wants and every fan wants to cheer for. Harvick criticized Edwards on national Honeycomb Blinds TV after Edwards triggered an accident at Talladega, and Edwards responded by leaving a sarcastic note on Harvick’s airplane. A week later, Edwards confronted Harvick in the garage at Charlotte, and it quickly turned physical. Harvick's not alone. Several folks have voiced a similar opinion.
