Just what is AJ Allmendinger supposedly guilty of?
Did he make a mistake?
The AJ Allmendinger story is getting deeper, and just what is going on here, and just what NASCAR officials say their drug testers found when testing the Roger Penske driver at Kentucky
Speedway 10 days ago is still unknown.
NASCAR isn't saying what banned drug Allmendinger is accused of taking, and neither is Allmendinger.
However Allmendinger insists he didn't "knowingly" take an banned drug.
Tuesday Allmendinger issued a short statement:
"I have informed NASCAR that I have requested that the "B" sample be tested, following the steps according to NASCAR's 2012 rule book regarding this situation.
"I fully respect NASCAR's drug usage policy and the reasons they have it.
"I am hoping this can get resolved as quickly as possible so that I can get back to driving the No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge.
"I am sorry that this has caused such a distraction for my Penske Racing team, our sponsors and fans.
"Obviously I would never do anything to jeopardize my opportunity here at Penske Racing or to my fellow drivers.
"I am very conscious about my training and health and would never knowingly take a prohibited drug."
Allmendinger is the most prominent NASCAR driver since Jeremy Mayfield in 2009 to be caught up in this web.
After all the lawsuits and legal battles and debates surrounding the NASCAR-Mayfield situation, it would appear the testing firm NASCAR uses, Aegis Sciences Corp., and its Dr. David Black would have all the t's crossed and i's dotted before advancing into another minefield like this.
However the whole process now may be reviewed again.

AJ
AJ is a spokesman for Fuel In A Bottle, a 5-hour Energy type energy shot product. A key ingredient in their "Energy Blend" (1870mg in a 2oz. shot) is L-Phenylalanine. Phenylalanine biologically converts to L-DOPA which is a precursor to dopamine. Dopamine also naturally converts to norepinephrine (noradrenaline), and epinephrine (adrenaline). All of which will trigger a positive result for Meth/Amp.
My guess is that he took something in some form
My guess is that he took something in some form unknowingly likely an over the counter medication that had something in it that was band. The problem with these test and band not just in NASCAR but all sports is that the list tend to pages long and not even most doctors can tell you for sure whether or not your taking something that will get you in trouble. On the other hand shorten the list and you get people taking stuff that mask real drug use.
