Larry Pearson and Charlie Glotzbach recovering from Saturday's nasty crash

    BRISTOL, Tenn.
    Larry Pearson and Charlie Glotzbach, racing in Saturday's NASCAR legends sprint, discovered that crashing at Bristol hurts just as much as it ever did.
   Pearson, who spun out and was then T-boned by Glotzbach, is reported awake and alert at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Pearson underwent surgery on a broken left ankle, and he is also being treated for a fractured pelvis and broken right hand. The 56-year-old Pearson, listed in fair condition and expected to undergo more surgery on hip hip eventually, is the son of Hall of Famer David Pearson.
    Glotzbach was also hospitalized, apparently with a punctured lung and cracked sternum, but in good condition.

   Some safety aspects of the cars used in the sprint were being questioned by NASCAR drivers, particularly some of the head supports. Glotzbach's car drove so far into Pearson's door area that NASCAR drivers looking at the replays were stunned, and asking questions about door-bar supports in Pearson's car. Drivers were also questioning the speeds, noting that Rick Wilson, who won the 35-lapper, which was stopped for an hour after the wreck, was clicking off laps at 120 mph, close to Cup car speeds here.
