Ryan Newman says the tire test at Indianapolis this week was so marred by weather that drivers only got 15 decent laps in, so Goodyear has scheduled yet another test at that 2-1/2-mile track for the Brickyard 400.
Last summer's 400 was plagued with major tire trouble, and drivers could barely manage 10 laps before having to pit for new tires. In response Goodyear has put a new testing game plan in place this season, with much more testing, and not only at Indy.
"We tested different constructions, different tires…and we didn't really see anything that was ideal," Newman said. "So there's more testing planned.
"The track was fine, the grip was good, and the cars drove good. Just still working on getting the idea tire for the track.
"Similar issues to last year….."
