   SONOMA, Calif.
Reed Sorenson will replace Casey Mears as Brian Vickers' replacement at Team Red Bull next week at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, general manager Jay Frye said Wednesday.
Mears, in his four races subbing for Vickers, ran 22d at Dover, 29th at Charlotte, 23rd at Pocono, and 36th at Michigan, where he crashed into teammate Scott Speed.
Sorenson, 24 but a Cup veteran, has been idle most of this season, running only Texas (39), Richmond (41) and Darlington (43). The Georgia driver ran the full 2009 tour for Richard Petty Motorsports, with a best finish of ninth in the Daytona 500.
"Our unique situation has afforded us the opportunity to try some different things, and we're continuing to do that with Reed," Frye said.
"We appreciate Casey's work and everything he's done the past five weeks."
Sorenson made his Cup debut in October 2005 at Atlanta, and he's run in 148 races. His best season was 2007, with three top-fives and six top-10s, including the Brickyard 400 pole.
Vickers has been sidelined the rest of the season while being treated for blood clots.
