So what's next for Dale Earnhardt Jr? And Teresa?

   DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.
So Dale Earnhardt Jr. had another rough day at the office here Saturday.
Just when things started looking up for him, things go south again.
Barely July and already wait till next year?
Earnhardt early Saturday night found himself the cheese in a big-crash sandwich, and finished 39th.
His hopes to make the championship chase are rapidly diminishing.
And then what to make of the future of his stepmother Teresa Earnhardt, whose four-team Cup operation in 2008 wound up this season as half of Chip Ganassi's two-car operation…with word that Ganassi's GM deal is on the ropes and that he may be looking for a Toyota deal?
Earnhardt's best run this season was second at Talladega in April; that was the last time he led a lap. His only other two top-10s, a 10th at Las Vegas in March, and an eighth at Martinsville in March.
What did Earnhardt see early in the 400:
"I couldn't really tell," he said. "A couple of guys got together, and I just tried to stay high, and David Reutimann was crossed up, and we got together with him pretty hard, and tore the upper A-frame off the chassis.
"So the car is tore up too bad to get back out there.
"We'd just got it driving good, just freed it up enough to where it could go up through there. And we was just trying to get around them.
"Everybody was in the way at that point, and we were just picking them off one at a time.
"I saw some guys getting together in front of me. And the track's real slick; it's not wide enough for three-wide or two-wide racing sometimes. These cars are just sliding around, and everybody had to be careful.
"I guess there were a couple of guys going for the same piece of real estate. I tried to stay high because I thought they would spin down off the wall. And David got crossed up trying to miss them, and we hit him.
"I thought we had a shot of getting up there and mixing it up with the leaders.
"But it tore the upper A-frame off the left front and drove it into the exhaust, so all the exhaust is tore off the left side of the motor, and we ain't got time to fix it."
And tied in perhaps with his own Cup tour travails – the 2010 game plan for his own JR Motorsports. After Brad Keselowski's breakthrough Cup win at Talladega in April, it appeared Keselowski  could well be running at least a partial Cup schedule for the Rick Hendrick-partnered JR Motorsports next season.
However that game plan may be falling apart.
Earnhardt himself says it all depends on sponsorship: "The way I see it is that Brad has a ton of opportunities, and doors are all wide open for him.
"We have to look at what our chances are, and secure the funding to move to the Cup series, before we can actually put that in front of Brad. We have to do that as a company first, regardless of who is driving it. We've got to know whether we've got that kind of money to run it.
"Brad is going to have plenty of opportunities, and he's going to make the right decision. I'm sure whatever decision he'll make will be a good one."
Sounds like Keselowski better be knocking on doors.

Mulhern?

you didnt follow the interesting part..Teresa? We hear wayyyyyy too much on mr 21st in position standings with 2 wins since the clinton inaugration...the teresa headline caught my eye and splat..nothing

ah. somebody noticed....i was

ah. somebody noticed....i was trying to be subtle -- sometimes a writer can't write everything he knows.....just drop a few hints....okay, okay, let me man-up and do the job i get paid to do -- and get in somebody's face....good thing i carry an extra pair of sunglasses for those awkward moments

Junior Becoming Irrelevant

I'm not seeing much future for either Junior or Teresa - Ganassi Racing has been in collapse for two years and Junior is showing he can't fit with Hendrick Motorsports regardless of who his crew chief is.

you are correct on all three

you are correct on all three points.
i think junior and rick ought to put junior at JR Motorsports and let him run as owner-driver, like tony stewart.....but, honestly, tell me what you think rick hendrick and Dale Earnhardt JR. ought to do for 2010? More of the same?

Hendrick Needs To Release Junior And Disband The #88

I'm not seeing much future for Junior here. Ownership is a possibility but I haven't seen that much moxie out of him as an owner. Hendrick needs to shut down the #88 and focus on his three cars and Tony Stewart's efforts - the #88 could be transferred to Stewart as his third car.

wow, pretty hard on the boy,

wow, pretty hard on the boy, aren't we.....well, yes, maybe.....but you dont believe in the jinx, do you?

I WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON JUNIOR

I WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON JUNIOR NO MATTER HOW MUCH OF A SLUMP THE POOR KID IS IN. I HAVE BEEN A FAN SINCE 1999 WHEN HE STARTED I HAVE BEEN THERE THROUGH THE GOOD AND UNFORTUNATELY THE BAD. I HELD THE KID IN MY HEART AND MIND WHEN HIS FATHER DIED. NOW EVERYONE EXPECTS HIM TO BE LIKE DADDY, JUNIOR IS JUNIOR, SENIOR WAS GREAT IN HIS TIME, BUT JUNIOR IS TRYING TO MAKE HIS OWN LEGEND AND TO ME HE IS DOING QUITE WELL. HE HAS A HEART OF GOLD AND I REALLY AM APPALLED BY THE RUDENESS OF SOME PEOPLE. JUNIOR DOESNT HAVE TO PROVE ANYTHING TO ME. I DONT CARE IF HE WINS OR LOSES, WHETHER HE IS CHAMPION OR NOT. JUNIOR WILL ALWAYS BE #1 TO ME, AND I WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIM
AS FAR AS HIS STEPMOTHER SHE CAN KISS MY BUTT; I DONT LIKE HER I NEVER DID AFTER WHAT SHE DID TO JUNIOR.
THANK YOU DALESLADY88

Jr

At what point do we stop calling this a slump and call it Standard Operating Procedure?

Get the heck off Juniors back!!

I have stood back and listened and watched as the media and would be fans tore him apart and i am sick of it, He is just as good a racer as any one out on that track, maybe better. Why pick on Junior isnt there anyone out on the track what about the escapades of shrub, Jeremy Mayfield etc..Its time we leave poor junior alone give him a fighting chance. sure he isnt like his daddy but i dont want him to be like his daddy Junior is Junior, his daddy was great in his time. You go baby show these people. until then i will be standing strong right next to you standing true and strong until the end
love you always junior, daleslady88

Facts don't count in the Junior game.

You poor pathetic Bubbas - or in the case of "daleslady88" - Bubbett. Why is it so hard to admit that facts show Earnhardt Jr is just not a very good driver? You can still be fans. Hey, I'm a big fan of the Florida Marlins, but I would be the first to admit they are not a very good baseball team.
"Little eeee" fans can't seem to do this. They reject reality and substitute one they like better. To quote "daleslady88"....."He is just a good a racer as anyone out on that track, maybe better."
Honey, what facts are you looking at that would cause you to believe this is true?
Personally, I have nothing against Earnhardt Jr, he seems to be a decent guy.
