The loss of star driver Denny Hamlin for at least the next five races has left team owner Joe Gibbs in a quandary.

And Friday night, barely a day after signing Mark Martin to fill in for Hamlin, Gibbs abruptly reversed course and picked Brian Vickers to take the ride, beginning next week at Texas Motor Speedway

Martin will drive for Hamlin and Gibbs this next week at Martinsville Speedway.

"Obviously having to find someone to fill in for Denny is not an ideal situation to have to be in, and when you start a process like this you obviously begin to look at the drivers that are not only available but also able to drive for your race team and manufacturer," team manager J. D. Gibbs explained.

"We were a bit premature in determining Mark's status past Martinsville.

"We really appreciate everyone at Michael Waltrip Racing (Martin's regular ride) and Toyota for working with us through this process."

Sounds like they didn't want to pay Mark what

Sounds like they didn't want to pay Mark what he's worth and BV is already on the JGR squad. Sorta like bringing up a MLB baseball player from their farm team vs a player trade from another team.

Say wut?

Okay, what's the scoop here Mike? You don't announce Mark Martin and then suddenly change your mind like this. What happened? Did Martin back out? Did Gibbs change his mind? Is something else up? Don't get me wrong, Vickers is good and I don't think he's a bad choice either, but why the reversle when they could have had Vickers to begin with?

Whoever made the final decesion made the right

Whoever made the final decesion made the right choice, Martin is an overrated driver who at this stage is just making laps and denying some up and coming driver seat time. He should have retired long ago, Vickers will do a much better job racing to win.

maybe the time off will give hamlin time to think

maybe the time off will give hamlin time to think about trying to be a bully. He wrecked logano at bristol and wrecked himself trying to turn logano into the wall head on .

Yes logano roughed him up for the win but he diden't spin hamlin. If you look at the race and the pics of it lagano's car is ahead of hamlins and straight with denny turning down into him as he pass's.

Then to add insult to injury denny stayed in the gas well after he started to spin trying to spin his own car around but instead speed straight toward the infield wall.He never got off the gas until he was 50 ft from it.

I'm not a fan of either driver but denny needs to learn like danica did.If you plan on wrecking someone learn how to not wreck yourself in the meantime.

Denny brought all this upon himself and the only person he needs to complain to is the man staring back at him in the mirror.
